Dosage & Administration
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity; systemic fungal or acute infections.
Interaction
When additional drugs or over-the-counter products are taken at the same time, the side effects may become more severe or the drug may stop working correctly. Acetaminophen, Atropine, Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, Chlorpropamide, and Glucocorticoids are some of the products that may interact with this Scalp preparation.
Mode of Action
Betamethasone is a corticosteroid with mainly glucocorticoid activity. It prevents and controls inflammation by controlling the rate of protein synthesis, depressing the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and fibroblasts, and reversing capillary permeability and lysosomal stabilisation.
Side Effects
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, and allergic contact dermatitis have all been recorded as side effects of topical corticosteroids.
Pregnancy & Lactation
It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus and should not be used for prolonged periods of time in pregnant patients. It is not known this drug is secreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings
These medications should not be used around or in the eyes. Infections of the skin should not be treated with this scalp preparation (Bacterial, Viral or Fungal). If irritation or hypersensitivity occurs when using this Scalp preparation, treatment should be stopped immediately. Salicylic Acid should not be used to open wounds or damaged skin. All patients, regardless of age, should avoid long-term continuous therapy.
