Intravaginal use of soaps, spermicides and vaginal douches (vaginal washes) is not recommended during treatment with Dequalinium VT.
Treatment should be stopped during the heavy bleeding period of menstruation and resume afterwards.
As with all vaginal infections, unprotected sexual intercourse during treatment with Dequalinium VT is prohibited.
To minimize exposure of the newborn to dequalinium chloride, vaginal tablets should not be used within 12 hours before birth.

Contra Indication
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients present in medication.
Ulceration of the vaginal epithelium and the vaginal portion of the cervix.
Those who have not yet had their first menstruation, and thus did not reach sexual maturity must not use it.

Mode of Action
Dequalinium is a bisquanternary quinolinium anti-infective agent against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, protozoa and yeast. It increases bacterial cell permeability and reduces enzymatic activity, thus causing cell death.

Based on previous experience and since Dequalinium acts locally, no harmful effects on pregnancy and/or the unborn and breast fed infant are expected. Dequalinium VT should only be used during pregnancy and during breast-feeding if medically needed.
